Type Locality and Naming

Along the height of Rabindjan, northeastern Zirabulak Mountains. A.A. Shapkin et al., 1978 (238, p.14). Hypostratotype on the height of Chupan-Ata.

Lithology and Thickness

The Rabindzban Fm consists of jaspers, cherts, radiolarites of green, dark gray, black color, interbedded with yellow-red-brown, yellowish-green and light brown argillites, clay-siliceous slates, dark gray limestones and basaltic lava flows. Thickness 150-190m.

Lower contact

(E. cf grandis Naz.), Astroentactinia sp. (A. cf. stellata Naz.), Spongentactinella sp. and others.


Age 

The section of the formation belongs to the condensed type, covering the age interval from the Pridoli of the late Silurian to the Serpukhovian of the early Carboniferous. The age is determined by conodonts, characterizing most of the zones from the Pridoli to the Vise-Serpukhovian. V.S. Korsakov et al. (238) determine the age of the Rabindzban Fm as Early Carboniferous (Tournai-Visean), considering the older late Silurian and Devonian fauna to be re-deposited. K.S. Ivanov et al. (206) determine the age of the formation within the limits of the Early Silurian to Carboniferous (Vise-Serpukhov) based on conodont collections.On the State Geological Map-500 of Uzbekistan (460), According to the decision of the editorial board, the Chupanatin Fm, which are dated as late Silurian-early Carboniferous, are included in the composition of the Rabindzhan Fm.(Arbitary 70% up in Lochkovian top for graphics to avoid overlap, even though extends much higher)
